Former Indian Cricketer Aakash Chopra hailed Mumbai Indians youngster Tilak Varma for his well-composed knock against Delhi Capitals to help the five-time champions register their first win in IPL 2023 and also lauded Rohit Sharma for his much-needed comeback to form in the cash-rich league.

The 20-year-old Tilak Varma was a lone bright spot for Mumbai Indians in their first two games, continued his fine form against Delhi Capitals as he scored 40 runs off just 29 balls with four sixes to his name. Speaking on his youtube channel, Aakash Chopra praised Tilak Varma for his fantastic knock against Delhi.

“Ishan Kishan got run out while taking a non-existing run. Suryakumar Yadav dropped a catch and got hit on the head. So Tilak Varma came in at No. 3. How well the kid played. The way he is batting, it’s not very far when you will see him in Indian colours,” Aakash Chopra said.

Aakash Chopra believes the young Tilak Varma has a  good chance of playing for the Indian team in the future, as he showed excellent temperament and composure in his innings batting alongside his skipper Rohit Sharma. In IPlL 2023 he showed the ability to anchor the innings at a very strike rate and rescue the team in case of a top-order failure.

“He is in the Mumbai Indians jersey as of now, the Indian jersey will also be on him because he has a good temperament, plays spin very well, and he is just absolutely brilliant.”

The stylish left-handed batsman from Hyderabad had a very good debut season for Mumbai Indians as he scored an impressive  397 runs in 14 innings at an average of 36.07 and a strike rate of 131.02.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra was highly impressed by Rohit Sharma’s knock against Delhi Capitals as he looked at his absolute best as he scored his half-century in 25 innings for the five-time champions, Rohit helped his side record their first win of the season along Tilak Varma.

“A captain’s knock was awaited for a very long time, that Rohit will send the ball into the fourth row and he did that this time. He was brilliant. He doesn’t have any difficulties against fast bowling and he was fed a lot of fast bowling, to begin with,” Aakash Chopra added.

Rohit Sharma-led- Mumbai Indians will take on two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders on the fourth match of the league stage in the famous Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 16th.
