Cricketer-turned-commentators Sanjay Manjrekar and Kevin Pietersen were full of praise for Rajasthan Royals youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal for his breathtaking innings against the five-champions Mumbai Indians in a full-packed Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. The 21-year-old has been a standout performer for his side in his edition of the Indian Premier League.
It was a perfect homecoming for the Mumbai boy Yashasvi Jaiswal as he was in full flow against the less experienced Mumbai Indians bowling attack to score the highest individual score 124(62) by an uncapped player in the IPL to surpass Paul Valthaty’s previous record.
On the historic 1000th in IPL, the Rajasthan Royals lit up the occasion as he scored runs all around the parks with his Pull shots, lap shots, straight drives, reverse sweep, and cut shots making it difficult for the Mumbai bowlers to stop him.
Sanjay Manjrekar, who is currently part of Star Sports, was awestruck by the Phenomenal knock by the youngster and praised his innings as one best batting performances by the Indian batter in the history of the cash-rich league and lauded him for scoring more than half of the team’s total in very high strike rate and rated this inning as the breakthrough innings in IPL 2023.
“It’s the best batting performance from a young Indian batter in the history of the IPL. We have seen Manish Pandey get a hundred; he was very young at that time. But to just see him bat, the size of his score his team’s score. That’s also a big parameter. One individual scoring more than half of the team’s score is a breakthrough inning. One batter for Rajasthan Royals contributed,” Manjrekar told Star Sports.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently the leading run scorer in the league with 428 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of 159.70 from the nine matches in IPL 2023.

Former England Kevin Pietersen hailed Yashasvi Jaiswal for his terrific knock against Mumbai Indians stating that it was a treat to watch this kind of innings in the historic 1000th game and said that it was great to hear the noise for his bat. In the innings against MI, the 21-year-old timed the ball beautifully to play 360 degrees in iconic Wankhede Stadium.
“It’s also an absolute treat to watch more talent turn up in this great academy, which is the IPL. It’s only fitting that in the 1000th game of the IPL, since its inception, we start to see the youngsters get a little bit used to glitz and glamour and making it look easy,” Kevin Pietersen said.
“His interview is quite telling. He said he still has to put his head down and carry on. He is a marvellous guy, he just loves batting. To hear the noise from the sound of his bat was special,” he said.
The RR youngster’s knock went in vain, as the team could not defend the total at the end, as Mumbai Indians middle order batters Suryakumar Yadav and Tim David played explosive knocks to chase down the total hitting three hat tricks sixes in the final over of the innings to win the match for their side by 6 wickets.
