Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) player of the match Marcus Stoinis revealed that he would go for scans before the next game as he hurt his finger while bowling to Atharva Taide in his 2nd over of the innings. The 33-year-old hurts his finger in the follow-through of his bowling and walked out of the field in pain.
Australian hard-hitting all-rounder Marcus Stoinis played an explosive knock of 72 runs off just 40 balls to help his side post the second-highest total in IPL history. The Right-hander batter was equally lethal again the pacer and spinner to carry on the momentum set by Kyle Mayers in the powerplay.
In the second innings, Stoinis was trusted to open the bowling for the Lucknow side and he picked up the important wicket of Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan in the very first over of the innings.
“It’s been better but yeah, it is what it is, We will get a scan later,” Speaking about his finger injury, Marcus Stoinis said.
Marcus Stoinis revealed during his partnership with Ayush Badoni, he was not thinking about the big total as wanted just build the partnership and keep the aggressive approach in the flow and lauded the youngster for his exceptional performance batting number 3 for the LSG and cheekily said that it was good to play on good batting wicket instead of slow wickets in their home ground.
“No, I wasn’t [thinking about 250]. I don’t think Ayush was either. We were just trying to build a partnership. He got off to a flyer as well and was hitting some nice shots; he’s a very talented player. We were just trying to keep building on that and that was our only focus.”
The Australian versatile batter said that he is happy to bat in any position as he batted in different positions throughout his cricketing and also to bowl with the new ball or to finish the game with the ball, stating that he is happy to do anything for his team.
I Was Swinging A Few In The Nets The Other Day – Marcus Stoinis
Marcus Stoinis was underutilised in his bowling so far in the league but was trusted to bowl with the new ball against Punjab Kings, which paid off for the team. Speaking on the team’s decision to bowl him in the powerplay, Stoinis said that the bowling coach was elated to see him swing some balls in the practice session and admitted that his role is vital in the slow wickets of Lucknow.
“I was swinging a few in the nets the other day, so the bowling coach got a bit excited and thought maybe start me with the new ball. But probably our home wicket suits me a little bit more in terms of taking the pace off and being a bit more creative and using the wicket. No one loves bowling on flat ones,” Marcus Stoinis added.
Lucknow Super Giants will quickly return to Ekana Stadium for their clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1. In the previous encounter against the RCB side, LSG clinched the victory in the last ball of the game in the famous Chinnaswamy Stadium.
