While many believe that MS Dhoni’s days in the IPL are numbered, his former Chennai Super Kings teammate Shane Watson believes otherwise. The former Australia allrounder has backed the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman to continue playing for the next three to four years.

The former India skipper retired from international cricket in 2020 and does not play domestic cricket at all. Since retiring from the international arena, he has only played in the IPL as far as competitive cricket is concerned. He is now gearing up to lead Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming season of the IPL.

The IPL is making a return to the traditional home and away format this year after a long gap. And many believe that IPL 2023 could be the last season for MS Dhoni. The fans believe that the legendary cricketer will retire this year after playing in front of the Chennai fans.

Shane Watson on MS Dhoni’s career:

Shane Watson, however, believes that there is still some cricket left in MS Dhoni. Speaking to ANI, Watson said that he doesn’t think that it would be Dhoni’s last season in the IPL. The former all-rounder feels that the CSK captain can continue to play for the next three to four years.

“I heard that this is the last IPL of MS Dhoni but I don’t think. MS Dhoni can continue to play for the next three to four years. He is still very fit and batting and wicket-keeping really well. His leadership is something that is as good as his game. His fitness and mind-reading of the game make him a good leader. His skills on the ground are awesome. He is one of the main reasons that CSK is successful,” said Watson.

Meanwhile, IPL 2023 is scheduled to begin on March 31 with a clash between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad.
