Former Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody hailed Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni as the best captain in T20 cricket history ahead of the high-octane IPL final on Sunday. The four-time champions reached their record for the 10th final in the cash-rich league. The 41-year-old has won four IPL titles for the Chennai Super Kings.
MS Dhoni was one of the most successful captains in international cricket history. Under his captaincy, India won the ICC World T20 2007, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, and ICC Champions Trophy 2013. In Indian Premier League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings has won four IPL trophies and two Champions League T20 trophies under the legendary Indian Skipper.
Speaking on Espncricinfo, Tom Moody heaped praise on CSK skipper MS Dhoni as one of the best T20 captains in the history of the league and reckons that the Indian legend has done exceptionally well in the T20 cricket and hails the England red-ball skipper Ben Stokes for his impact in the longer format of the game and admitted that the sample size of the England skipper is to make a judgment on his captaincy skill in Test Cricket.
“MS Dhoni hands down in my view is the best T20 captain we have ever seen. And he has shown examples of that this year. And if you are talking about Test cricket, I would not put MS Dhoni in that category,” Tom Moody said.
“I think there are other candidates, we have seen one recently, in Ben Stokes, who has had an enormous impact. And it is only a small sample size, but what he has done for England in the short period is quite a dramatic change in the way the game is played,” Moody further added.
Chennai Super Kings is the second most successful team in the history of the Indian Premier League with four titles in the cash-rich league next to the five-time champions Mumbai Indians and has been the most consistent team in the IPL making it into the playoffs 12 times.
In T20 Cricket, There Is No One To Challenge MS Dhoni – Sanjay Manjrekar
Former Indian Cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar too accepted that MS Dhoni is a legendary captain in T20 Cricket stating examples of the impact of Arjuna Ranatunga on Sri Lanka cricket, Australia skipper Steve Waugh and India’s Kapil Dev on the teams during their playing days.
“Let’s not forget Arjuna Ranatunga’s impact on Sri Lanka. Steve Waugh as a Test captain, Kapil Dev in 50-over cricket. Others are also there, but in T20 there is no one to challenge MS Dhoni,” Sanjay Manjrekar said.
MS Dhoni will look to equal the record of being the most successful team in the Indian Premier League alongside Mumbai Indians with five IPL titles as they will take on one of Gujarat Titans in the finals of IPL 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
