Former Indian World Cup winner Ravi Shastri hailed MS Dhoni for his impact in the Indian Premier League so far. The former Indian skipper has played 16 editions of the IPL and captained Chennai Super Kings to win the four championships in the league.
Ravi Shastri believes that MS Dhoni has helped to grow the league’s stature on the big stage and added that he helped the Chennai Super Kings to become a brand in world cricket and recalled that–“Thala”, as he is fondly called by CSK fans.
“I think in many ways he has helped the property grow big time. Just with his presence there, just the way he conducts himself, just what he has done for the franchise Chennai Super Kings, made them a brand. He mentioned that he is called Thala, which means leader,” Ravi Shastri said on Star Sports.
MS Dhoni has been captaining the Chennai franchise since the inaugural edition (2008) and led the team to become the second most successful franchise winning 4 IPL titles next to Mumbai Indians, who have bagged 5 IPL titles.
Speaking about MS Dhoni’s contribution to Chennai, Ravi Shastri said that Chepauk is the fortress of the 2011-world cup winning captain and added MS Dhoni has been an important player in the cash-rich league
“When he walks into Chennai, his contribution is immense. There can’t be enough words to describe how important a player he has been for IPL. And to win it four times as captain, you know, that’s the ultimate stamp,” he stated.
The former Indian skipper has been a stalwart of the Chennai side as he lead them to play-offs for 11 seasons and also reached the IPL final, a record 9 times.
You Need Someone In The Top 3 To Carry On And Play – Ravi Shastri’s Assessment On RR vs LSG Game
Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri who is currently part of the broadcasting unit of IPL 2023, was not much impressed by KL Rahul’s post-match presentation talk, as he said, they assessed 160-165 would be a competitive total on this wicket.
“Absolutely. All that talks about 160, I don’t buy it. When you have two chances, if you convert that 39 to 60 or 70, 160 becomes 175. You need someone in the top 3 to carry on and play that long inning,” Ravi Shastri told Star Sports.
KL Rahul has scored 39 runs off 32 balls at a strike rate of 121.88. The 2023 season has been a moderate start for LSG skipper as he scored 194 runs from 6 matches at the poorest strike rate of 114.79. The right-handed opener holds a poor strike rate among the top 30 scorers in the IPL 2023.
