Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni is on the verge of joining the elite company of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and other IPL legends when they take on Lucknow Super Giants in the second match of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni holds the record for playing the most matches in IPL history.

MS Dhoni is just 8 runs away from becoming the seventh player to complete 5,000 runs in IPL history. The legendary Indian captain has been part of the IPL since the league’s debut in 2008–and will look to achieve this record in Chepauk where they will return after three long years.

If MS Dhoni scores 8 runs, he will join the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, David Warner, AB de Villiers, and Shikhar Dhawan. Pertinently, most of the batters in the list bat at the top of the order.

On the other hand, MS Dhoni is known for his finishing skills averaging almost 40 runs in IPL with a strike rate of over 135, more importantly, leading his side to four IPL titles.

Similarly, Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul is also 6 catches short of 100 catches in the T20 format–and needs 103 runs to cross 4000 runs in IPL. The right-handed batter was known for consistency in IPL cricket and was cheaply dismissed for 8 runs against Delhi Capitals in their opening game.

Coming into today’s match, Chennai Super Kings will take on Lucknow Super Giants on their home soil after three long years. Chepauk has been known as a stronghold for the four-time champions as they hold the best home record among the teams in IPL.

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings Will Look To Continue Their Dominance In Home Soil

Chepauk has been the fortress for CSK over the years and it is difficult for visiting team to beat them. Chennai Super Kings have the players to make use of the spin-friendly conditions at Chepauk. Chennai is known as the second home of the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

There has been running speculation that Dhoni will play his last season for CSK in the 16th edition of IPL.

The Dhoni-led side has been one of the most successful sides with four titles. While in the last edition, CSK’s side failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second time in 15 editions of IPL, this time they will be looking to lift the title as it is reported that the 41-year-old will play his last stint in IPL this season.
