Mumbai Indians will be desperate to bounce back in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The most successful team in the history of the IPL, the five-time winners struggled to do well in the last two seasons of the tournament.
They last won the title in 2020 and have not managed to make it to the playoffs since then. In 2021, the Rohit Sharma-led side finished their IPL campaign at the fifth position when the tournament was still an 8-team affair.
And last year, their performance was even worse. Mumbai Indians struggled throughout the competition as they finished at the bottom of the points table. In 14 games, they could register only 4 wins.

Sunil Gavaskar names Mumbai Indians’ trump cards:
While only time will tell how Mumbai Indians play in the upcoming IPL 2023, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has named two players who could be the trump cards for the franchise. And the two players are Tim David and Cameron Green.
Mumbai Indians went all out in the auction for IPL 2023 to sign up Green for a whopping amount of Rs 17.50. The highly-rated Australian is seen by many as Kieron Pollard’s replacement.
“I think it (game-changer) will be Tim David. He is the kind of player who can change the game in a couple of overs,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
“Cameron Green is someone who will make a big difference with bat and ball. He might even bat at No. 3 because when he has opened the batting for Australia, he has scored so many runs so quickly,” he further added.

Mumbai Indians will also have the services of Jofra Archer for IPL 2023. The England star could not play at all last year due to an injury and will finally make his debut for Mumbai in the upcoming edition. With Archer back, Sunil Gavaskar also picked the 4 overseas players for Mumbai Indians.
“The four overseas players will be the big signing Cameron Green, another big signing in Jofra Archer. Tim David, three. And then depending on the form of opposition, either Tristan Stubbs or Dewald Brevis,” Gavaskar concluded.
