Gujarat Titans veteran pacer Mohit Sharma revealed that he had his plans clear to bowl the final over against Chennai Super Kings in the closely fought encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The 34-year-old executed Yorkers to perfection before Ravindra Jadeja hit him for two consecutive boundaries to seal the game for his side.
Mohit Sharma made a brilliant comeback in this edition of the Indian Premier League and has been the go-to bowler for Hardik Pandya– side in the death overs and was once again trusted to bowl the final over for the defending champions, as he kept his side in the game until the final ball.
Speaking to the Indian Express, Mohit Sharma said that he knew wanted in the death overs, as he practised for such moments in practice sessions and revealed that his idea was to bowl yorkers against the CSK finishers.
“My mind was very clear in what I wanted to do. In the nets, I had practiced such situations and I have been in such scenarios before too. So I said let me bowl all balls yorkers and was backing my instinct,” Mohit Sharma said.
The Indian veteran had a break in his bowling as he had some conversation alongside Hardik Pandya and David Miller in the middle of the over, as many believe broke his momentum in the final two balls, Speaking on those moments, Mohit Sharma said that the team just wanted to know what was his plan and reckons that has nothing do with his execution failures.
“They wanted to know what will be his plan of action. I said I will again try to bowl yorker. People are now saying this and that but frankly it has no meaning. I knew what I wanted to do.”
“I ran and tried to bowl (yorker) again. I just wanted to be focussed and back myself. Whole IPL I have done that. The ball landed where it shouldn’t have and Jadeja got his bat. I tried, I tried my best,” he said.
Mohit Sharma has picked up 27 wickets from 14 games at a good economy rate of 8.17 bowling the tough final overs for the defending champions in IPL 2023.

Mohit Sharma revealed that he could not sleep after the completion of the match, as it was a closely fought encounter, as he failed just by inches and reckons that he was not nice feeling after the loss, as he is trying to move on from the final’s loss.
“I couldn’t sleep. Sochta raha kya alag karta joh match jeet jaate. What if I could have bowled this ball or that ball? It’s not a nice feeling now. Somewhere something is missing but I’m trying to move on,” Mohit Sharma added.
Gujarat Titans have done exceptionally well in the league to top the points table and have been consistent in the last two league games in the cash-rich league, as the team fell just short of their second consecutive title in Indian Premier League history.
