Legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar has suggested rising Kolkata Knight Riders’ star, Rinku Singh to be cautious in handling success, as it can go both ways. He reckoned that it is important to handle success. The KKR youngster is having a dream run with the bat and has scored 174 runs from 5 matches including a match-winning performance against the defending champions–Gujarat Titans.
Sunil Gavaskar, who is closely watching the youngster, said that it is important to deal with success as a lot of eyes would be on him, and it’s the foremost duty of his family to help him deal with these kinds of situations. He asserted these overnight successes can fall one day and it’s important to pick up after that failure.
“Of course, he will now be the centre of a lot of eyes and will be in demand a lot more than he was a week or so back. There is absolutely nothing wrong in letting success go to one’s head for as sure as night follows day there will be a fall. How one picks oneself up after the fall is important, and it’s here that the family and genuine well-wishers play an important role,” Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid Day.
Sunil Gavaskar further added it is important as human beings to know about both sides of the coin and said many players have failed to succeed at the highest level as they didn’t have the backing up from family and well-wishers.
It’s A Fairytale-Like Never Before – Sunil Gavaskar On Rinku Singh’s Heroics Against Gujarat Titans
Sunil Gavaskar was full of praise for Rinku Singh for his amazing feat of hitting five sixes in five balls to win the match for his team against Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2023 tournament. Rinku Singh has been a standout performer in this edition of IPL 2023.
“More than five sixes in an over have been hit before most notably by Yuvraj Singh and that too in an ICC T20 World Cup, but to hit five consecutive ones off the last five deliveries in the match and that too when 30 runs were needed to win makes it a fairytale-like never before,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
The young batter scored five sixes in a row to give Kolkata Knight Riders. He produced arguably the greatest finish in the history of the cash-rich league, with a blazing last-ball finish over Gujarat Titans.
“The poise, the balance, and the ferocity with which they were struck was jaw-dropping because when you see Rinku Singh from close quarters, he is not a big-built powerful looking person but an average guy who would not grab attention straightaway,” Gavaskar further said on Rinku Singh’s innings.
Two-time Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Delhi Capitals in their next league game on April 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
