Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly believes it is very difficult to get a player of Rishabh Pant’s calibre and lauded KL Rahul for doing very well in the ODI format for India. The hard-hitting left-hander suffered major injuries during a car accident in December 2022 ruling him out of cricketing action for an indefinite period.
Speaking exclusively to the Times of India, the Director of Delhi Capitals Sourav Ganguly ruined the absence of Rishabh Pant, hailing him as a special player and it was very tough to replace him in the Indian team, praised Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat for doing well in the limited opportunity and also lauded Rahul for exceptional work in ODI cricket.
“Rishabh is special and you won’t get a player like him easily. But I think Ishan Kishan is good. There’s KS Bharat. They play differently. Everybody will not bat the same way. With opportunity, these wicketkeeper-batters will come good. With Ishan, we have seen what he can do in the shorter formats.
“KL Rahul has done well in ODIs with an average of more than 45 which is fantastic. He is a good One-Day player. If he can do the job, I don’t see a problem,” Sourav Ganguly said.

Earlier, Sourav Ganguly too expressed his concern over missing Rishabh Pant for IPL 2023–and also added that the Indian team will miss him in the WTC final and World Cup scheduled later this year.
The 25-year-old made his IPL debut for Delhi in 2016 and has been an integral part of the team since then, he was named DC skipper in the 2021 edition. The left-handed batter has close to 2500 runs in IPL including one hundred.
With the preparation in full swing–Delhi Capitals will look to win their maiden title under the inspiring leadership of David Warner. Capitals will get their campaign underway on April 1 against Lucknow Super Giants.

Sourav Ganguly reckons Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw is ready to play for the Indian teams and feels Indian selectors will keep a close eye on him during IPL 2023. Prithvi Shaw has been scoring runs consistently across formats in domestic cricket in all three formats.

“I think Prithvi Shaw is ready to play for India. Whether he gets an opportunity will depend on slots. I am sure Rohit Sharma and selectors have a close eye on him. He is a good player and ready,” Sourav Ganguly said.
