Cricketer-turned-commentator Virender Sehwag believes Punjab Kings all-rounder Sam Curran will be an important bowler for Shikhar Dhawan-led side going into the tournament. The 24-year-old bowled a few brilliant overs for Punjab Kings in the initial few games.
Virender Sehwag lauded the Punjab Kings’ bowling unit as one of the best bowling units in the league as they have Sam Curran, Arshdeep Singh, and Kagiso Rabada forming the best fast bowling unit in IPL 2023. Speaking on Sam Curran’s role.
“Sam Curran will prove to be a very important bowler for Punjab in IPL, He has had a stellar run in the T20 World Cup and that confidence will work in favour of the team. Along with this, Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, and Rahul Chahar provide strength to this team. Overall Punjab Kings have a very strong bowling unit,” Virender Sehwag said in Star Sports.

Sam Curran was purchased for the whopping amount of INR 18.5 crores by Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2023 mega auctions. Thus, Curran became the highest-paid player in IPL history. Sam Curran was the Player of the Tournament when England lifted the T20 World Cup in Australia last year.
Shikhar Dhawan led- Punjab Kings missed out on another England all-rounder Liam Livingstone for the first four games. Punjab Kings will be hoping to have Liam Livingstone in the playing 11 as soon as possible.
Last year, he enjoyed his best outing in IPL as he scored 437 runs in 14 games at an average of 36.42 and a sensational strike rate of 182.08 and he was also handy with the ball as he picked up 6 wickets for the franchise.
The Acceleration Came There After He Had Reached His Fifty – Virender Sehwag On Gill’s Slow Knock
Former Indian Dazzling opener Virender Sehwag slammed young Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill for his slow batting in the middle over against Punjab Kings. Sehwag pointed out Gill’s poor strike rate as he took 40 balls to complete his half-century for the defending champion.

“He scored 67 off 49 balls but when did he reach his fifty? He reached his fifty off maybe 41-42 balls so in 7-8 balls he scored 17 more runs. The acceleration came there after he had reached his fifty. If even that had not happened then GT would have chased maybe 17 instead of 7 in the last over,” Virender Sehwag said.
Though, the Gujarat Titans opener was the only player to score a half-century in the match his strike significantly dipped post-power play for the defending champions, which left their team to chase down 7 runs in the final over and Gill was bowled in the final over before Rahul Tewatia heroics faced the match Gujarat Titans.
