Former Rajasthan Royals batting coach Amol Muzumdar took a slight dig at Sanju Samson over his approach to adapt to different conditions and his game plan on a different kind of surface in the cash-rich league and reckoned that it is important to find gaps in the bigger grounds like Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
Indian domestic cricket legend, Amol Muzumdar believes that Sanju Samson always wanted to go after every ball for a boundary as he is not worried about the game situations and also added most modern-day batters go for boundaries rather than playing in the situation.
“There’s something called muscle memory. Somebody like Sanju Samson is a classic case of see-the-ball, hit-the-ball. He’s not worried about consequences. (He’s) being as brave as possible, daring to score those boundaries and sixes. These are modern-day cricketers, Sanju, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and even Devdutt Padikkal to an extent,” Amol Muzumdar said.
The former Mumbai batter criticized that the youngsters could not adapt to the conditions and change their roles according to the kind of pitches and ground they were playing and cited the words of former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody as they should try to hit in the gaps of bigger grounds.
“They don’t have the kind of player who could adapt and play the different role on this kind of surface, where Tom (Moody) rightly said that you need to hit those pockets,” he added.
In the case of 155 runs in slow wickets in Jaipur, Rajasthan Royals made a brilliant start to the run-chase with the opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal (44) and Jos Buttler (40) adding 87 runs for the first wickets in 12 overs. However, RR lost three wickets in quick succession losing Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, and Shimron Hetmyer leaving the team in a struggling position.
With 19 runs to defend in the final, Lucknow Super Giants pacer Avesh Khan bowled exceptionally well in the final overs conceding only 8 runs and picking up the important wickets of Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel to help his team register the fourth win in the league stage.
You Will Have The Gaps To Nuddle Around – Amol Muzumdar
Former Mumbai Batter Amol Muzumdar said that it is important to find gaps in bigger grounds as they will have bigger pockets between the fielders in the boundaries.
“At Sawai Mansingh Stadium, you will have those bigger gaps because of the square boundaries being big, you will have those pockets. You will have the gaps to nuddle around,” Amol Muzumdar added.
Rajasthan Royals have lost their second game in the league stage and will look to make comeback, when their take on Royal Challengers Bangalore On April 23, in iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium.
