Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer underwent successful back surgery in the UK on Tuesday. According to reports, Iyer will miss the entire season of IPL 2023 and the World Test Championship final against Australia on June 7 at the Oval.
The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper is expected to miss at least three months of competitive cricket before returning and it looks like he will be fully recovered before the all-important ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Shreyas Iyer has been the best ODI batter for India in 2022 and will be hoping for his quick return to the team.
Shreyas Iyer complained of back issues during the fourth and final Test between India and Australia, which eventually ruled him out of competitive cricket for the next few months.
“Shreyas underwent a successful surgery on Tuesday in London. In fact, he walked a bit too yesterday,” a source said in TOI.

The Indian batter is often dealt with injuries in his playing career. Earlier in 2021, Iyer was out of action due to injury concerns in the run-up to the 2021 T20 World Cup and even though he was included as a reserve, he didn’t get a game.
Indian team dealt with a huge blow as India will be without the services of Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant for India at the WTC Final India in June.
Earlier, the two-time Kolkata Knight Riders were hopeful of having his services for some games in IPL 2023. The Kolkata-based franchise said they are hopeful that Iyer can recover earlier than expected from his back injury concern and return to take the field in the latter stages of IPL 2023.
Kolkata Knight Riders Will Be Without The Services Of Shreyas Iyer For 2nd Half Of The League
Shreyas Iyer was appointed as the skipper of the two-time champions in IPL 2022. Last year while playing his first-ever season for KKR, the right-handed batsman scored 401 runs, including 3 fifties, in 14 matches. Missing Iyer has been a big blow for KKR not only because of his captaincy but also his batting.

Kolkata Knight Riders had a mixed season so far in 2023 under the captaincy of their new skipper Nitish Rana, the two-time champions have won only two matches out of their six games in the league stage and will look to turn things quickly around for the Kolkata side.
Nitish Rana-led side will take on the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings in their 7th league game on April 23 in the iconic Eden Gardens.
