Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden believes young Indian opener Shubman Gill is going to dominate world cricket in the next decade. The 23-year-old played a match-winning knock against Punjab Kings on his home soil. He scored 67 runs off 44 balls to help the defending champions to register their third win in the league stage.

Former Chennai Super Kings opener Matthew Hayden, who is currently part of Star Sports, was full of praise for the Indian youngster Gill for taking his team to victory against the quality bowling attack. He also lauded his fantastic shots in the match–and also asserted that Gill has the potential to have a command in world cricket.

“Gujarat Titans needed someone to take responsibility and bat deep in this run chase against a quality Punjab Kings bowling attack, and Shubman Gill did just that. Some of the shots that he played were pleasing to the eyes. He’s such a class player and he’s going to dominate world cricket for the next decade or so,” Matthew Hayden said.

Former New Zealander pacer, Simon Doull hailed Gujarat Titans finishers; David Miller and Rahul Tewatia for holding their nerves in the last over to win the game for the defending champions on Thursday.

“David Miller and Rahul Tewatia are the guys who get the job done for Gujarat Titans whenever there’s a requirement. They did for GT in TATA IPL 2022 and repeating the same in 2023.” Simon Doull said.

With 7 runs to defend in the last over, Sam Curran bowled exceptionally well to concede only 3 runs from the first four balls.  With 4 runs to win in the final two balls, Rahul Tewatia moved across the stumps to play a paddled sweep to win the match for the Hardik Pandya-led side.

It Got Slower With The Old Ball – Shubman Gill

Speaking on his performance, Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill said that the surface got slower in the middle overs as they felt difficult to time the ball. The middle order struggled to get going as Sai Sudharsan, Hardik Pandya and David Miller had a moderate day with the bat.

“It got slower with the old ball. So we needed to get off to a good start in the powerplay. We lost a bit of momentum when Hardik Bhai got out. It wasn’t a big score but it was important to rotate the strike and not have dot balls,” Shubman Gill maintained.

Gujarat Titans will take on Rajasthan Royals in their 5th league match at the home ground Narendra Modi Stadium on April 16.
