Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag shared his thoughts about Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Harry Brook’s remark on Indian fans for trolling him for a string of poor scores in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The England youngster was dropped from the Aiden Markram side following low scores in IPL 2023.
The 24-year-old Brook had been in tremendous form for the English side in Test matches with four centuries in 6 outings. He was bought for a whopping ₹13.25 crore at the IPL 2023 Auction, but has not managed to perform for the SRH side as an opener.
After his century against Kolkata Knight Riders, speaking during the post-match presentation Harry Brook said that he is glad that he “shut up Indian fans” for their trolls following his poor scores in the initial few games.
Sharing his views on this matter, Virender Sehwag believes that a player shouldn’t even look at these kinds of things on social media but rather post updates. He said that his focus should be to perform for the team. He suggested that the players can watch movies and listen to music and go out with friends.
“Why would you mess with trolls? Why should you even look at who is trolling you or criticizing you or praising you? Your work is to come, work hard, perform, and leave. If you want to put something on social media, then post it. After posting it don’t look at the comments because that will affect your mind. For that, your need to be in your space – watch movies, listen to music, hang out with friends,” Virender Sehwag said.
“Social media is not for watching anything, it is only a place for posting updates. Don’t be afraid of them. And if you perform, even those you had trolled or criticized you, will now praise you.”
The 24-year-old has scored only 163 runs from his nine matches at a poor strike rate of 121.64 including a century against KKR. Brook was replaced by Glenn Phillips in their game against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, which worked for the 2016 champions, as he helped the side with a quickfire 25 runs to win a match for his side.
Opening Is Something Different For Me – Harry Brook
Earlier, England’s rising star Harry Brook revealed the reason behind his poor run in IPL 203 and stated that he is new to the role of opening the innings in IPL. Brook usually bats in the middle overs for England and said that he tries to be more positive with the bat in the powerplay.
“Opening is something different for me. Going out there with a different game plan, I have not executed it properly yet but getting a big score amid this IPL was nice,” Harry Brook said.
Harry Brook is touted to be the next big thing in the world of cricket and has been the standout player for England in Test Cricket as he scored 809 runs from 6 matches at an average of 80.9 with an impressive strike rate of 98.80 in the longer format, but could not make name for him in the cash-rich league.
