Former England skipper Eoin Morgan believes the batters in the middle know how to build their innings as they can read that game situation and play according to him. Since the start of IPL 2023, the Strike rate has been a hot topic of discussion in the league.
As experienced players like David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul take some time to settle down in the innings to take down the bowlers. Many experts criticized their batting approach in the innings, which affects their teams to post big totals despite having a good start in the powerplay.
Eoin Morgan, who brought in the aggressive brand of cricket in England Cricket, shared his views on the raising concern over the strike rate of experienced players at the top of the order.
“Majority of the chat around strike rate has been when wickets have been lost and ultimately when sides have been beaten. One of the hardest things to do is to take risks when you are losing wickets. It is very easy to sit back and forget the understanding of where the batter is trying to get,” Eoin Morgan said.

Earlier, former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull, who was seen commentating during Virat Kohli’s batting slammed the former RCB Skipper as he took 10 balls to move from 42 to 50 runs with 10 wickets in hands during their match with Lucknow Super Giants.
Dhawan Is A Great Example As He Batted Through The Innings – Eoin Morgan
Cricket-turned-commentator Eoin Morgan cited the example of Shikhar Dhawan for his phenomenal and well-composed batting against Sunrisers Hyderabad as wickets were falling in the regular intervals for the Punjab side and also praised David Warner’s anchor innings against Mumbai Indians as it allowed Axar Patel to take on Mumbai Indians bowlers.

“Dhawan is a great example as he batted through the innings and got 99. But in between that innings, some of them were saying he needs to get on with it. With wickets falling at the other end, every experienced player knows that you need to get partnerships going. Last night (MI vs DC) we also saw David Warner trying to get a partnership going as he tried to build some sort of a total and then Axar Patel Came in and played beautifully,” Eoin Morgan added.
Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan cheekily took a dig at commentator Harsha Bhogle during an interaction, asking him if he was now happy with his strike rate or not as Bhogle earlier Tweeted about Dhawan’s strike rate against Rajasthan Royals.
Dhawan currently holds the orange being the highest run-getter in the league with 225 runs from 3 games being dismissed only once in the tournament. Warner is second on the scoring list with 209 runs from four games for Delhi Capitals at a poor strike rate (114.38)–the lowest among top batters in the league stage.
