Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag asked his former teammates Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli for improved behaviour off the field as millions of youngsters look up to them as inspiration in their life. The 2011 World Cup winners were seen having a heated argument after Royal Challengers Bangalore’s win over Lucknow Super Giants in Ekana Stadium.

The Visuals after the game were not well received by many cricket experts, as they felt that this would set a bad example for the youngsters in the squad, and videos of their clash went viral on social media as it triggered both the team players and fans across the country.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag said that the things that happened after the game wasn’t right as the losing team should have just walked away with the defeat and they is no point in going up against each other in the post-match and reckons that players should behave responsibly as the millions of kids across the globe watching the match.

“I switched off the TV once the match got over. I had no idea about what happened after the match. The next day when I woke up, I saw a lot of chaos on social media. What happened wasn’t right. The loser should quietly accept defeat and walk away and the winning team should celebrate. Why did they need to say anything to each other.”

“I always say one thing, that these guys are icons of the country. If they do or say anything, millions of kids follow them and probably think ‘If my icon has done this, I would too’. So if they keep these things in mind, they would limit such incidents,”  Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

BCCI on Tuesday, charged Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir 100% of their match fee and Naveen ul Haq with 50% of their match fee for their actions in the field. Virat Kohli was seen animated throughout the match, having words with Lucknow Super Giants batters Amit Mishra and Naveen ul Haq in the final overs of the game, which was not well received by LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir.

When You’re On The Ground, These Things Don’t Look Nice – Virender Sehwag

Cricketer turned commentator Virender Sehwag believes that strict actions like a ban on players must be taken by BCCI to stop these kinds of acts in forthcoming matches and said that it is important for players and coaches to control their aggression on the ground.

“If the BCCI decides to ban anyone, then maybe such incidents will happen rarely or not take place at all. Such incidents have happened several times in the past so it’s better to do whatever you want to inside the controlled environment of the dressing room. When you’re on the ground, these things don’t look nice,” Virender Sehwag added.

Many speculate that the reason behind the RCB player’s behaviour against Lucknow is due to KL Rahul’s team’s actions in their previous encounter in Chinnaswamy stadium, where Lucknow Super Giants made a brilliant comeback to secure the win in the final ball to break the hearts of Bangalore fans.

Lucknow Super Giants had a wild celebration on the ground after the game with Gautam Gambhir silencing the Bangalore crowd and the RCB team was pumped throughout the game to give it back to the LSG side in the Ekana Stadium.
