Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson credited his team for sticking to the plan against Delhi Capitals in their third game of the league stage. The 2022 runner-up dominated David Warner-led Delhi in all three departments to register an emphatic 57-run win to register their second win of the IPL 2023.
The 28-year-old Sanju Samson was not his best with the bat as he was dismissed on a duck after facing four deliveries. Samson was trying to accelerate on the good start by Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
“Almost everything went to plan. I think my not scoring runs didn’t go plan The way I play the format, I do take a few balls to settle in, but mainly it is just to go out and express myself and get those 40-50 runs at a high strike rate, with Jos doing the other role of taking the innings deep.
“The roles are very clear. If we do those roles, it is very normal to get few dismissals like this but I’ll try to keep going,” Speaking on his team’s performance in the post-match press conference, Sanju Samson said.
Asked to bat first, Rajasthan Royals posted 199/4, at the end of 20 overs as the Rajasthan openers, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal put a brilliant partnership together. They added 98 runs with Buttler being the highest scorer(79 runs) and Shimron Hetmyer played a blistering cameo of 39 runs off 21 balls.
Yuzi And Ash Bhai Know How To Do With The Wet Ball – Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson credited their spin twins–Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal for their bowling in the league so far as they were instrumental in restricting the opponents in the middle overs.
“The last time when we played here, it was a swimming pool and we were not able to keep the ball dry. We will get used to wet balls. Yuzi and Ash bhai know how to do with the wet ball. He (Ashwin) reads the batters very well. He is always looking at the batters and getting hints. They had a lot of left-handers and bowling Ash bhai a few overs were crucial,” Sanju Samson quipped.
Trent Boult breathed fire in the opening over as he picked Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey in the first over giving the Royals a fantastic start in the second innings. Royals will take on four-time champions Chennai Super Kings in the fourth match of the league stage on April 12 at iconic Chepauk Stadium.
