Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar hailed Gujarat Titans Opener Shubman Gill for his outstanding century against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in a must-win encounter on Friday. The 23-year-old innings helped the defending champions to post a mammoth total of 233-3 at the end of 20 overs.
Shubman Gill once again proved his worth in the crucial match against five-time champions producing match-winning innings of 129 runs off 60 balls to score his third century in this edition of IPL 2023. The Indian opener has been in the purple patch in 2023, scoring a bulk amount of runs in this edition of the cash-rich league.
Speaking on Star Sports, Cricket-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Shubman Gill for his terrific batting against MI, stating that Sky is the limit for the Indian youngsters and reckons that the front and back foot play was very important for a good batter.
“It is very difficult to find more adjectives apart from saying that the cricketing world is at his feet. The sky is the limit for him. That’s all I can say.” Sunil Gavaskar said
“And his feet really. The certainty of the feet’ movement. The certainty of playing forward and back, that’s so important and essential for a good batter. At the same time, keep your balance as well and that’s what he does.”
The young Indian opener, who is already touted to be the next big thing in Indian Cricket, has been in the form of life since the start of the 2023 season, proving to be a vital cog for the Indian team in all three formats.
Shubman Gill Has Improved With Every Inning – Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar believes that if Shubman Gill can manage to play in the same style then the run will flow from him and said that the Indian youngster has got better with every inning in IPL 2023 and reckons that youngsters form will be a good sign not only for Gujarat Titans but also for the Indian team, as he is slated to play a vital role in WTC Final against Australia.
“If he keeps doing that, runs are going to flow. Because there is a correctness about his cricket and a correctness about his batting. You sometimes feel like he has played across the line. He hasn’t played across the line. He has played at the very last moment. He hasn’t been wild trying to play across the line.”
“This is the third century he has got in this IPL. He has improved with every inning. Now he has got 129, the highest score in this year’s IPL. So the sky is the limit and he is going up and up. So that’s good news not just for Gujarat Titans, but for Indian cricket,” Sunil Gavaskar added.
Shubman Gill has scored three centuries in his last four IPL innings, which has helped the defending champions to reach their second consecutive final in the league stage and he will look to continue his fine form going into the grand final against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.
