Former Indian Cricketer Atul Wassan believes that legendary Indian skipper MS Dhoni will be the next victim to the exploit of the Indian Youngster Shubman Gill, who has been batting in the form of his life. Defending champions Gujarat Titans and four-time champions Chennai Super Kings are going to face each other in the grand final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 28.
Shubman Gill’s Centuries helped Gujarat Titans to outplay Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians from this edition of the Indian Premier League and the youngster will look to continue his fine form going into the final match against Chennai Super Kings.
The Indian youngster has centuries across all three formats in 2023, including a double ton in ODI, and scored his maiden IPL hundred when he reached the triple-figure mark against SRH, followed by two hundred in the last three games.
Speaking to the ABP News, Former Indian bowler Wassan feels that Shubman Gill will once again continue his purple patch against the four-time champions and reckons that being the new team Gujarat Titans have straight away made an impact in the cash-rich league.
“I feel Gill will gobble up the trio of Dhoni, Kohli, Rohit because of the way he is batting. I feel next in line is Mahi. Even the Gujarat Titans team has looked excellent. Mumbai was in the game with Suryakumar Yadav there, but Gujarat has a good bowling depth as well. Despite coming in as a new team, they have made an impact,” Atul Wassan said.
Atul Wassan hailed Shubman Gill as a well-rounded player, who can take on any quality bowling attack on a given day and praised that youngster for keeping his focus in the IPL, despite having big money and fame involved in his name.
“We had seen such formidability from CSK. Talking about Gill, he is a well-rounded player. Anyone could lose focus given the money and fame in IPL, but Gill has looked composed,” he said.
Shubman Gill played a crucial inning against five-time champions producing match-winning innings of 129 runs off 60 balls to help them qualify for the second consecutive finals in the cash-rich league. He had amassed 851 runs in 16 matches at an impressive average of 60.79 and a strike rate of 156.43 scoring three centuries in the last four games he played in the cash-rich league.
