Former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody slammed Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner for his slow knock against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday. David Warner-led side made a poor start to their campaign as they suffered three losses in three games.
Speaking to Espncricinfo, Tom Moody criticized the Australian opener’s innings in the chase against Rajasthan as he nearly could not accelerate at any stage of the innings in the chase, as Delhi Capitals found no match to the Sanju Samson’s led side.
“It seemed that certainly through David Warner’s innings, there were very few punches thrown by him,” Tom Moody said.

Though David Warner become the first overseas player to score 6000 runs in IPL, Tom Moody was baffled by David Warner’s approach in the innings as he was trying to play shots all along the ground rather than going for the big hits. The 36-year-old hits only 7 fours and failed to single six in the innings at lasted for 19 overs.
“A lot of the big shots he was trying to play he was playing down into the ground where, historically, when he’s taking on the game, he’d be taking on and hitting the ball over mid-wicket for six,” he added.
Coming into the match, Rajasthan Royals were dominant with the bat at the start of the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Butler hammering the bowlers at all parts of the ground with them having a partnership of 98 runs in 51 balls. Buttler batted very well at one end helping Rajasthan Royals to post a total of 199 runs from 20 overs.
On the 2nd innings, Delhi Capitals made a disastrous start to their innings losing Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey in the 1st over as Trent Boult breathed fire with his new ball bowling and the David Warner-led side found no match to Rajasthan bowling as they were bundled out for 142-9 at the end of 20 overs to face their straight third defeat in the league.
That Something Ricky Ponting Have To Consider – Tom Moody
Tom Moody believes that David Warner’s strike rate might be a worrying factor for their head coach Ricky Ponting and urged the team management to sort out the top order woes as soon as possible. Warner played a struggling inning to score 65 runs off 55 balls nearly playing half of the team’s overs.

“It was interesting for him to bat 55 balls, which is nearly half the innings, for just 65 runs. You’re not winning too many games chasing 200. That’s something that he’ll have to consider and Ricky Ponting will have to consider, what’s going on at the top of the order,” Tom Moody added.
With Rishabh Pant ruling out the IPL 2023, David Warner was given the responsibility to lead the team but has not done well so far in the league stage the team playing at a poor strike rate of less than 120 in all three matches. Delhi Capitals will take on five-time champions Mumbai Indians on their second home game in Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 11.
