Former Sunrisers Hyderabad Head coach Tom Moody questioned Aiden Markram’s say in the team selection for the matches, as the SRH skipper said that he was unsure about their speedster Umran Malik’s absence from the playing XI and not sure about what happening behind the scenes in team’ selection.

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper’s statement came as a shock in the cricketing fraternity as many questioned the SRH management whether the captain was given a free hand to select the team according to his plans and possible rift within the team management. Malik appeared in only seven matches in this edition of IPL 2023 and could not make an impact for his side this season.

Speaking at the toss, Aiden Markram revealed that he is unsure about Umran Malik’s status in the team as he was unsure about what’s happening behind the scenes with the Indian speedster and reckoned that he got a lot of X-factor in him.

“I am not too sure, to be honest with you. Obviously, he is a player with the X factor, and bowls at 150kmph, but I can’t, I don’t know what is happening with him behind the scenes. But, certainly, he is a player that has a lot of x-factors,”  Aiden Markram said.

Sharing his views on the SRH skipper’s statement, Cricketer turned commentator Tom Moody feels that the statement by Markram implies that he has very little influence in the team selection and reckons that the captain and coach needed to be on the same side for the betterment of the team.

“I think that implies that he has very little say in the selection and he may have an opinion on Umran Malik the cricketer and what he probably feels his season should have been like, with regards to opportunities to play,” Tom Moody said in Espncricinfo.

“That’s not ideal, you need your captain and your coach on the same page, working towards what you think is the best combination. Every franchise is different with regards to the involvement in the selection,” the 53-year-old explained.

In the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Heinrich Klaasen was a lone bright spot for the team scoring a brilliant century against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Proteas batter’s knock went in vain as their inexperienced bowling attack could not make an impact with the ball the RCB openers dominated the bowling throughout the match.

We Do Not Know Who Has Got The Tallest Hat – Tom Moody

Tom Moody believes that the strategy and plans of franchises differ from team to team, as most of the teams stick with a coach and captain to take decisions regarding the team preparation and tactics, and reckons that few teams have a lot of cooks in the team, which may be a factor for Sunrisers Hyderabad and it is always a concern who has the tallest hat in the team.

“For some franchises, it’s a very simple process for the captain and the coach and maybe someone in cricket operations or other senior players will come up with what they feel is the best team. There are other teams where there are a lot of cooks in the kitchen,” he added.

“I think that applies in this situation that we are talking about the Sunrisers. There’s a lot of cooks in the kitchen and we do not know who has got the tallest hat,”  Tom Moody concluded.

Sunrisers Hyderabad has spent most amount in the picking their side in the IPL auction 2023 but did not make a significant in the league stage as they have only four games out of 13 games and will look to finish their season on a good note in their final game against Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
