South African star batter Aiden Markram was appointed as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Markram said that he would love to have MS Dhoni playing in SA20 as his experience and knowledge about the game will help the local South African players.

Aiden Markram led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to a title in the inaugural season of the  SA20 league after beating Pretoria Capitals in the first season. Many experts did not experts Sunrisers Eastern Cape to make the playoffs, but they brilliantly well to win the inaugural edition. Apart from leading the team, Markram contributed to the team’s success with both bat and ball.

Markram was the third-highest run-getter in the SA20 league with 366 runs from 12 matches at an average of 33.27 with 1 hundred and 1 fifty in the competition. In Speaking with Media on the virtual press conference, when he was asked to pick an Indian player he would like to see ply his trade in SA20. Markram said

“To be honest with you, someone like MS (Dhoni) would be great to have in your camp just for the guys to be able to learn from him, He has got all the knowledge and seen everything that this game has produced. For our local players in South Africa to be able to spend time with someone like MS Dhoni would be great. That one comes to my mind, firstly but there would be a lot of players that would be discussed for sure,” Markram told reporters.

 Aiden Markram will replace Kane Williamson as the Sunrisers’ captain. Under Williamson’s leadership, SRH failed to enter the playoffs and the Hyderabad-based franchise also finished eighth last season. Sunrisers had a terrific mini auction as their picked up Mayank Agarwal, Harry Brook, and Adil Rashid to add to their lineup.

“That’s a tough one. I played under Mayank at King’s. He and I got on well. And if you look at the amount of experience someone like Bhuvi has, it is almost irreplaceable. So, to pick one would be difficult right now but I think both of them would nail it certainly, Markram Said

SunRisers Hyderabad will begin their IPL 2023 campaign against former winners Rajasthan Royals in the home game on Sunday, April 2nd. Under Markram’s leadership, Sunrisers will look for their 2nd title in IPL.
