Indian Cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar criticized Ambati Rayudu for taking the field during the bowling innings of CSK as he was used as an impact player in the batting for the four-time champions. In this edition of the Indian Premier League, he has been used as an impact player for the franchise.
With 203 runs to chase, Ambati Rayudu walked into bat at the Number four position replacing young Akash Singh could not make any impact in the game as he was dismissed without troubling the scoreboard of Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling.
The 37-year-old went for a big slog sweep on his second ball, where he could not find enough power and got caught on the deep by Jason Holder. Sunil Gavaskar, who is currently part of Star Sports, lambasted Ambati Rayudu for taking the field as it would difficult to get going without having a proper warm-up in the game citing the example of young Prithvi Shaw.
“You got to the field. you can’t just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can’t do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
Though Chennai Super Kings are doing well this season, Ambati Rayudu is having one of the most disastrous seasons in his IPL career as he scored only 83 runs at an average of 16.60 from his seven innings.
The four-time champions suffered their second straight defeat in the hands of the inaugural champions as they were even clinical in the game in Jaipur, as Chennai Super Kings were hammered to 32 runs defeat.
Rohit Sharma Should Take A Little Bit Of A Breather – Sunil Gavaskar
Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar feels Indian skipper Rohit Sharma should take a break from some matches in IPL 2023 to keep himself ready for the all-important World Test Championship final against Australia starting on June 7.
“Honestly, I would also say that Rohit should maybe also take a break for the time being, and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship Final. [He can] come back again for the last few matches, but right now, [he should] take a little bit of a breather himself,” Sunil Gavaskar added.
Rohit Sharma had a decent outing for the five-time champions with the bat. He scored 181 runs from the seven games he played so far at a decent strike rate of 135.07. Mumbai Indians will take on Rajasthan Royals in their 8th league game on April 30 in the famous Wankhede Stadium.
