Defending Champions Mumbai Indians are all but out of the IPL 7 after they lost a must win game against Kolkata Knight Riders by 6 wickets. With this win, Mumbai still are in the seventh position with six points in the kitty. Robin Uthappa was declared the Man of the Match for his knock of 80.
Chasing a modest 142, Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a steady start as their openers Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir put together yet another half century partnership, their fourth in four matches. Gambhir got out for 14 but Uthappa continued his good work and reached his fifty. He went on to score a match winning 80 off 52 balls with the help of nine fours and three sixes. With this win Kolkata firmly in the race for qualification for Play-Offs.
After attaining success in their last two games while chasing, Kolkata Knight Riders once again put their opposition to bat on a rather slow surface. Once again Mumbai Indians failed to get off to a pretty decent start losing both their openers in the powerplay overs. Ambati Rayudu and Rohit Sharma did the repair works in the middle overs before Rayudu got out to Piyush Chawla for 33.
Skipper Sharma continued his good work and reached his half century. Some tight bowling by Kolkata bowlers towards the end restricted Mumbai to a below par 141-5 in their 20 overs. Apart from Rohit and Rayudu, none of their batsmen looked comfortable. Morne Morkel scalped two wickets whereas the spin trio of Sunil Narine, Shakib Al Hasan and Chawla accounted for a wicket each.
