The IPL auctiosn saw affluent consortias shell out money like water flowing in the streams. while there were some ridiculous amount spent on certian player, there were some buys which were actually like getting diamonds at the price of peanuts.

Here is the list:

ROSS TAYLOR (DD) – None of the IPL teams picking up Ross Taylor during the first round of auctions was flummoxing.  Here is a player who was a hot pick during previous auctions and is coming from a rich vein of form by cracking 3 hundreds in his past 3 ODI’s. But some sense prevailed and DD chose to buy him for a base price of 2 crores. Even though he would have to fight for a spot in the playing 11 with JP Duminy buying Ross for this price is a steal.

Baba Aparajith (CSK) – It was thought that this guy may be targeted at least by 3 – 4 teams who are in search of all rounders. But many teams chose to ignore Baba. Touted as one for the future he has risen through the ranks of domestic cricket and only 19 he played for the Rest Of India in the Irani trophy and performed well. Buying an all rounder like him for just 10 lakhs was a bargain buy for CSK and he is a definite in the playing 11.

Ravi Rampaul (RCB) – Buying Ravi Rampaul for just 90 lakhs was one of the very few smart decisions by RCB this auction. Even though they splash money for their players buying a player like Rampaul for this price is definitely a steal. He has the ability to price out top order batsmen and can bowl accurately in the death as well. He may have to fight for a spot with Mitchell Starc a similar kind of fast bowler who went for 5 Crores.

Ryan Ten Deschote (KKR) – Ryan ten Doeschate is one of the players who have been constantly given a hard deal by the franchises. He has the highest average of current players in ODI’s. Even though he may come from an affiliated country like Netherlands he has displayed his prowess in the county circuit. Had he been bought by a franchise like RR he would have been a start in his own right in IPL. Anyways KKR having procured the services of Tendo at the base price of 1 crore would augur well for the team. He may have to fight for a spot with Shakib Al Hasan and Chris Lynn.

Pat Cummins (KKR)  – Teen sensation bought for 1 crore at base price is definitely a smart move by KKR. His pace may trouble the opposition. Even though he is coming back from an injury lay off his class can never be questioned. Have to been seen whether he would be impactful at the slow tracks of Eden.

Virender Sehwag (KXIP) – Virender Sehwag would have truly felt the circle of life. Initially billed as one of the icon players during the first season his life has come full circle when his franchise till now DD has failed to retain him. Not many franchises were interested in him . KXIP having the services of this swashbuckler for a  price of 3.2 crores is a steal. Even though he may be past his best he can conjure some special moments and win matches on his own right.

Shadab Jakati (RCB) – When players of similar class like Iqbal Abdullah(65 lakhs) , Shahbaz Nadeem(85 lakhs) went for huge money, RCB getting Shadab Jakati for 20 lakhs is a worthy buy. He seems to be a starter in the RCB  lineup because the other spinner Murali is an overseas player and RCB have their overseas spots sealed by Gayle , AB , Starc/Rampaul , Albie Morkel. An effective spinner who was well utilized by CSK , Virat Kohli would be happy to use him in the middle overs.
