The Anti-Corruption and Security Unit(ASCU) of the BCCI is working hard to educate players in the Indian Premier League about the honeypots used by fixers to lure gullible young players to match fixing.
The BCCI is taking this step in an effort to prevent young cricketers from falling into traps laid by these bookies and fixers, and also in order to keep the sanctity of the sport and free cricket from it’s evils.
The BCCI has one session with each of the eight teams in the Indian Premier League, seeking to educate them about these specific pitfalls and how to avoid them.
Bookies often choose to lure in young players with the help of honeytraps, as they know young players are often impressionable and are willing to taste their first sweet fruit of fame.
The BCCI, however, has refused to name any specific names which caused them to take up this issue in the first place. The Indian Premier league is again already struggling with it’s dark sides, as news of a Rajasthan Royals player being approached with money for fixing surfaced in the media.
The method usually used by these fixers and bookies, the BCCI revealed, is that a fan will first try to get to know the player , followed by frequent messaging, and then dinner and attempts to become intimate with the player in question. Following this, the player is blackmailed with compromising videos, cornering the concerned player.
At this point there would be no escape from the clutches of the bookies, and the player will have no option but to go along with whatever the fixers wish for.
