The Board for Control of Cricket in India may just decide to scrap the Champions League T20.

The board is under the impression that the Indian public is suffering from too much cricket, and the solution may just be to scrap the least popular championship, the Champions League Twenty20.

The profits for the CLT20 are shared between the BCCI, Cricket South Africa, and Cricket Australia, hence making it a less attractive investment for the BCCI to continue.

Besides the viewership for the Champions League Twenty20 has been dismal for the Indian audience, barely increasing beyond it’s yearly viewership. This makes it very unlikely that the franchise will continue, seeing as how unpopular it is.

It is estimated that Star Sports is taking a yearly hit of $100m to keep the Champions League Twenty20 afloat, and it is very likely that they will soon forfeit these rights in order to preserve funds for the coming auction of the next Indian Premier League TV rights.

Star Sports will almost definitely compete for the TV rights, what with Sony also vying for the same rights.

All in all, this may not be such a bad decision on the part of the BCCI. After all, the Champions League Twenty20 is held only 2 months after the IPL and it may be an overdose of cricket.
