Indian Premier League, organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has the highest standard of T20 cricket in the world. The study conducted by CricViz, who analyse all the cricket stats, says so. Surprisingly, the T20I does don’t matches IPL’s standard.

The formula used to conclude is that studying one player’s performance across the world. His performances are assessed from league to league. For instance, if a player has played very well in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) but he failed to replicate the same in IPL, it’s concluded that IPL has a higher standard than CPL. Similarly, it goes for other leagues.

The CricViz model adjusts for conditions, venues and match situations as its baseline. An average is taken to quantify the quality of T20 cricket as per match, player and league. Also, they keep on adding more and more players for their assessment. So far, they have considered the data of 4500 players.

The graph above depicts that IPL has a higher standard in comparison to Big Bash League, Mazansi Super League, CPL, Pakistan Super League, T20 Blast, Bangladesh Super League, Super Smash and T20 International cricket.

The study showed that if an average T20 international player is taken from an average T20 international match and if is put in an average IPL game, he would perform 0.04 runs per ball worse than he would in that average T20I.

However, the stat which has grabbed the most attention is that IPL’s standard is even high than T20 international cricket. T20I is considered at the top in the shortest format but the study shows just the opposite.

CricViz has also explained the reason behind the same. They stated that IPL is place above T20I because a franchise can rope in international stars in their squad to strengthen their weak area. On the other hand, in T20I, the national team have to recruit their citizen only.
