There is certainly no doubt about the fact that Prithvi Shaw is one of the finest young talents in India. He has already made a name for himself with a debut Test century against the Windies not long ago. He was expected to be India’s first choice opener in the Test series in Australia. However, Prithvi injured his leg and had to miss the full series. In the one-off practice game against Cricket Australia XI, Prithvi smashed a brilliant 66 and looked in great touch.

Everything was going in the perfect direction for Prithvi when he sustained the ankle injury during the practice game. He was not only ruled out of the opening test but the whole series. To make matter worse, there were rumours circling that Prithvi hasn’t worked hard enough during the rehabilitation process.

Shaw dismissed all those allegations and wasn’t even bothered with what people had to say. He looked to roar back to competitive cricket with a bang in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, the youngster managed to score only 134 runs from 8 outings which halted his ambition. From potentially breaking into the World Cup squad, Shaw had to focus on the IPL again with World Cup hopes all but dashed.

Prithvi Shaw who has already been compared to stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar feels that the upcoming IPL is a golden opportunity for him to re-attain those feats with which he is generally associated to. He made a mark for the Delhi Daredevils in the last season. Prithvi will appear for Delhi Capitals this year and will look to make a mark with the bat at the top of the order.

Prithvi Shaw recalls the tough time

“It was a tough time, being away with injury. The lay-off was slightly longer than I had expected but I was glad to have returned in time for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy,” Shaw told CricketCountry in Delhi over the weekend.

“The results weren’t what I was expecting, but what it did to me was give me the confidence of being injury free. The 71 I scored against Goa felt really nice, and even though I would have wanted to get a few more big scores, I was pretty content with the progress I made.

“I always believe that in case of an injury lay-off, it always better starts where you came from so I believe this was a very crucial time for me. [I] got back to the domestic level, trying to hit some balls over there. Now it’s the IPL so I’m hoping for the best. Last year, I couldn’t do as well as I’d have liked to, so this year I’m really looking forward to making it count.”

It will be a very important season for the youngster. His hope of making it to the Indian World Cup squad looks bleak. However, he could still make the cut if he shows signs of adjustment and strokeplay during the IPL. Prithvi Shaw looks a determined individual and should look to come out all guns blazing.
