Kings XI Punjab would have traded R Ashwin to Delhi Capitals weeks back but as per a report in Mumbai Mirror, the reason behind the delay is player’s stake in the transfer amount.
The report adds that KXIP are trading him to Delhi Capitals and hence (as per the rules), he can demand up to 50% of the amount that his former franchise is trading him to the new franchise. Ashwin was purchased by KXIP for an amount of Rs 7.6 Crore in the auction for IPL 2018 but it is not sure whether he would be traded for the same amount.
The report also adds that the boards of two teams will meet on October 6. Ashwin was busy playing county cricket in England recently. He will be in India in the month of October, but will again be busy as he is a part of India’s Test squad for South Africa series.
The outgoing of Ashwin from KXIP will also mean that the team will have a new captain in the next season. KL Rahul is leading the race to be appointed as the captain of the franchise.
He has age on his side and can be a long-term captain of the Punjab-based franchise.
At Delhi, Ashwin will join likes of captain Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Amit Mishra and others. He and Mishra will form the strongest spin-attack in IPL should Ashwin play for Delhi in the next season.
Under his captaincy during his two-year tenure, KXIP did not have favourable results. They did kick off IPL 2018 well but their poor run in the second half of the tournament saw them miss out on playoff spot.
In IPL 2019, KXIP finished at sixth spot with six wins and eight defeats from 14 matches. They had a similar number of wins as number four ranked Sunrisers Hyderabad but missed out on a spot in playoffs on the basis of NRR.
Apart from a new captain, KXIP will also have a new coach as Mike Hesson left the position and join Royal Challengers Bangalore.
