'IPL is not a tamasha,' says Harbhajan Singh! 1

Indian cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan have come out in support of Indian cricket board after the board was accused of several wrong-doings by the Lodha panel. The BCCI was also accused of not implementing all the reforms as instructed by the panel.

The tension between the board and Lodha panel has now reached its zenith and matter is now in Supreme Court’s hand which will give its verdict on Thursday (October 6).

The board is reluctant to implement all the orders and a few days ago BCCI president said that if the board implements the Lodha panel’s recommendations completely, it would have to either abandon plans to host the Indian Premier League next year or pull the Indian team out of the ICC Champions Trophy, to be held in England in June next year.

Meanwhile, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh said that the cash-rich is a good platform for the youngsters to showcase their talent.

“With all the due respect to Justice Lodha, IPL is not a ‘tamasha’ but it is a platform for youngsters to showcase their talent. Players are getting lots of money and the competition is so good,” Harbhajan told ANI.

“It is a brilliant platform and this is one of the best things that has happened to Indian cricket,” he added.

Irfan Pathan also reiterated Harbhajan’s opinion and said:“BCCI has done so many good things and it is unfortunate the way it is being represented now. The good initiatives taken by BCCI should also be taken into count.”

“Because of IPL, many cricketers get a huge opportunity and their families also get financial support because of it,”  the all-rounder added.

Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel also backed the cricket board and said that the IPL gives an opportunity to players to learn from the senior players.

“IPL has changed Indian cricket for good, we learned so much from the veteran world and national players,” Parthiv said.
