IPL 2018: Suresh Raina is Irreplaceable in the Team – Stephen Fleming
Talking to the reports on the eve of the game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Fleming heaped praise on the southpaw. Saying that he is irreplaceable, Fleming added that they will try and minimise the loss.
“We cannot replace him he is the best batsman in the IPL and highest run scorer for us. We just find ways to minimise the loss. There are good players in the setup like Dhruv Shorey, Ambati Rayudu, and Murali Vijay, who have international experience. It’s an opportunity for someone else but you would like to see a player like Raina back into the team as soon as possible and make most of his presence,” Fleming said.
Moreover, Fleming stressed on using the service of Shorey and Vijay in Raina’s absence. He also added they will reshuffle the batting order a bit in the absence of Raina.
The former Kiwi skipper also expressed dissatisfaction over the change of venues. The Super Kings will now play their home games in Pune in the wake of the recent Cauvery Water Dispute.
However, Fleming revealed that the strategy has received a blow as their team was build keeping the home condition in mind.
“We are extremely delighted to have won both are games. The performances have been of great character. Although, the finishes have been tight but such performances turn out to be valuable at the start of the tournament. We sat at auctions to pick a team based on the conditions in Chennai and we are unhappy that we only got one home game. And that was going to be a big part of our strategy this year but we will have to adjust,” he added.
Dhoni and Stephen Fleming were the part of Pune setup which will be a benefit for the side. They have played in those conditions for two seasons and is accustomed to it.
Meanwhile, CSK has had a great return to the T20 league with two last-over finishes. They will continue to keep winning spree when they take on the Kings later today.
