Former Indian cricketer and Indian Premier League (IPL) player, Gautam Gambhir has pointed out that Robin Uthappa needs to deliver for Rajasthan Royals in the coming matches otherwise he can be dropped. He said the same for the youngster Riyan Parag, who has also not delivered the best from his bat.
Robin Uthappa, who was bought by RR in the IPL 2020 auction, has lost his wicket cheaply when the team needed him the most. His performance didn’t hurt Rajasthan Royals in the first two matches because the top order, comprising of Steve Smith and Sanju Samson, scored heavily and guided the team to victory.
But in the last two matches, after the early fall of openers and Samson, no man in middle-order could build innings for them. Robin Uthappa, having experience under his belt, was expected to take the team forward but he gave away his wicket easily. The Indian cricketer has scored only 33 runs in the last four matches at a poor average of 8.25.
Similarly, Riyan Parag has scored 6, 0, 1 and 16 while also with the ball, the youngster has not got enough chances.
Time’s running out for both Robin Uthappa and Riyan Parag: Gautam Gambhir
Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Gautam Gambhir said that it’s high time for Robin Uthappa and Riyan Parag to deliver either they will be missing out next games. He stated that the veteran Uthappa had not looked in form while also failed to live up to expectations and provide RR with much-needed momentum in the middle.
“Time’s running out for both Robin Uthappa and Riyan Parag. Uthappa has not looked in any kind of form, to be honest. Robin Uthappa has to deliver. There were a lot of expectations that Robin will be able to finish off games, and if not that, at least give them the momentum they need in the middle order,” he said.
“So, Robin needs to deliver on those expectations. Riyan Parag has not looked in any kind of form either. So, obviously, they have guys sitting on the bench, plus when Ben Stokes shows in, the combination will be completely different,” Gambhir told ESPN Cricinfo.
Further, Gautam Gambhir has warned Rajasthan Royals to rectify their middle-order ahead of the clash against the defending champion Mumbai Indians.
