As BCCI is considering hosting the IPL in September and October, the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 is speculated to get postponed. The mega event is also scheduled in these same months in Australia. Pat Cummins, the Aussie pacer, has backed to host IPL, saying that it would be a great way to resume cricket with IPL.
Pat Cummins was bought for INR 15.50 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) ahead of the 13th edition of the IPL. He went on to become the most expensive buy in the lucrative league’s history.
IPL would be great for cricket:
On Wednesday, when he was asked whether he supports postponement of the T20 World Cup for IPL, he should his consent to host the cash-rich league. He also gave the reason for supporting hosting IPL. The Australian vice-captain said that the T20 league would bring the best players together and would attract millions of people which would be a great way to resume cricketer after a break of a long period.
It’s a great tournament: Pat Cummins
“That would be nice … the IPL would be a great fit,” Cummins told reporters on Wednesday.
“(It’s) T20, brings together the best players in the world… it would be great for cricket.
“You have millions and millions around the world watching that format and I’m sure this year could potentially be even more after a long break off cricket.”
“There’s a lot of reasons why I want it to go ahead, but the main one is it’s a great tournament,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to the recent reports, this year T20 World Cup might be shifted to 2022. This is because there is already a T20 world cup scheduled in October 2021 in India and to schedule two World Cups of the same format in one year seems improper, as per reports.
