Chasing a moderate target of 157 runs to win, Mumbai Indians (MI) won the match by 7 wickets against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 19th over with 6 deliveries left, at Mohali, Punjab on Wednesday. This was Mohali’s first game this season.

For MI, Lendl Simmons top scored with a brilliant 100*, while Rohit Sharma chipped in with 18 runs. Simmons’ hundred was the first in this year’s IPL.

For KXIP, Hendricks, Rishi Dhawan, and Akshar Patel all picked up a wicket each in what otherwise was a poor bowling display.
Having being invited to bat first, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) posted a decent total of 156/8 in thier 20 allotted overs against Mumbai Indians (MI).

For KXIP, George Bailey top scored with 39 runs, while Manan Vohra and Shaun Marsh chipped in with 36 and 30 runs respectively.

For MI, Shreyas Gopal and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each, while Praveen Kumar and Santokie chipped in with a wicket each. There were two run-outs which contributed in Kings XI Punjab’s downfall.

Earlier at the toos, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma elected to field first on Mohali pitch tipped to be batting-friendly and Rohit Sharma was hoping chasing a set tatrget will give his team an advantage against table leaders Kings XI Punjab. George Bailey, Kings XI Punjab, skipper said he too expect the pitch to be batting-friendly and would have chased.

On to the team news now, Miller was rested for this evening and Shaun Marsh was brought into the XI for his first game in the season. Mumbai, on the other hand, also made one change, as Harbhajan Singh went out and in came Praveen Kumar. Mumbai’s change, however, was due to illness of Harbhajan SIngh.

Mumbai Indians are only one of two teams who have managed to beat an in-form Kings XI Punjab this season and will need to repeat that feat to keep themselves alive in this tournament.
