Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell has already lit the flame on the floor of the IPL 7. He has already scrolled 279 runs in this season, having coped with only 139 balls. He has hit three half centuries in his three innings and has failed to scratch the ton by five runs only twice.
People can say that it is his relative good luck that keeps him in this fantastic track. He has racked up a handsome 137 runs from his three innings.
He has shown a fantastic ball-striking and stroke range and it is as superb as anyone’s in the competition. He has displayed that he can score all around the field and at the same time he has the ability and the quality to carry on his temperament.
It can be claimed that if his luck favors him in this way, undoubtedly, he is going to hit more and more half centuries in this long season. Apart from the luck, he keeps sustaining his absolute capacity and capability as a batsman; he will hold either the top place of the run tables or the other places on the chart.
Anyway, IPL has got many other international players who can suppress Maxwell in the race of scoring the highest runs.
The foremost runner of this race is definitely the South African stalwart J P Duminy. He has played two fantastic innings for the Delhi Daredevils already. There is a difference between Duminy’s approach and that of Maxwell’s. Duminy plays with a less fiery method that is more risk-free than Maxwell’s chronic high-wire performance.
David Miller is the third choice on the run-scoring charts. But the way he always finishes as the leading run-scorer is on the verge of considering his part of the Kings XI Punjab, it signifies him as a hitter rather than the player around whom the team bats and is given space to construct an innings.
Manish Pandey and Dwayne Smith are the next two choices. Manish Pandey’s approach is somewhat nearer to that of the Duminy’s that is avoiding audacious attack, but sustaining a fast-paced, putting pedal a metal on modern batting, that tends to heavy run-scoring. On the other hand, Smith being an opener has got a great success in the last IPLs and he is now in Chennai Super Kings.
If Kevin Pietersen can make a comeback, no other batsman is as dangerous as him. He can play without any tension as after the drama of his exit from England’s cricket team he has nothing to prove in front of anyone. Unfortunately, Chris Gayle has been ousted for the injury reason too.
Though, cricket is a game of uncertainty, still Maxwell can top the chart or else at least acquire the other prior places for sure.
