IPS officer G. Sampath Kumar, who had alleged that Indian skipper MS Dhoni had attended a party thrown by bookmakers, has been suspended by the Tamil Nadu government for receiving money from a bookie.

Kumar, who was earlier assigned to the Indian Premier League match-fixing and betting case, came in the news recently after he had accused CSK captain MS Dhoni of fixing the May 12 game between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings last year.

The former Railway Superintendent of Trichy, has now been suspended after he was found to be in possession of Rs 55 lakh and 10 kgs of silver as a bribe from a bookie named Mahendra Ranka.

As reported by NDTV, CID Chief Narinder Pal Singh is said to have recommended Kumar’s suspension to DGP K.Ramanujam.

“Kumar, while deposing before the commission, levelled baseless allegations against his former colleagues in the state intelligence wing as well as senior CB-CID officials to preempt any further action against him in the betting racket,”was what the CID Chief’s report read.

Kumar is the same person who had reported the alleged involvement of six of India’s capped players in spot-fixing activities to the Mudgal committee, which was submitted to the Supreme Court earlier this month. His informer was revealed to be a bookie named Uttam C. Jain.
