Irani Cup 2017: Wriddhiman Saha, Cheteshwar Pujara Help Rest Of India Retain Title 1

The script was already written on Monday and there were just formalities left, which Wriddhiman Saha and Cheteshwar Pujara completed on Tuesday, as the senior duo added another 113 runs to steer Rest of India (ROI) to Irani Cup win.

The day started with Saha launching an attack on Gujarat bowlers as the Bengal wicket-keeper batsman was seen hitting almost every ball coming at him. Saha scored a total of 80 runs, out of 113 needed by Rest of India on the final day and in the process, he completed his double century. Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara also scored a century. He was the one who hit the final boundary to ensure that Rest of India lifts the title for the second consecutive time.

It was a great game of cricket where Rest of India trailed by a big margin of 132 runs at the end of the first innings but their bowlers led a strong comeback, dismissing Gujarat on 246, keeping target down to 379 with two days remaining in the game. The Rest of India had a poor start and then came the match-defining partnership between Saha and Pujara, that proved more than enough for them to scale the target.

Brief Scores: Gujarat (358 & 246) vs Rest of India 226 & 379/4 (Wriddhiman Saha 203* Cheteshwar Pujara 116*; Hardik Patel 2-104, Karan Patel 1-40)
