Cricket Ireland who was recently handed a Test status along with Afghanistan is looking to find a replacement for the position of head coach for their outgoing head coach John Bracewell. His two-year contract will end in December, just 6 months after Ireland was granted the Test status. It has been a much-needed boost for both Ireland and Afghanistan which will surely help them improve their brand of cricket in the coming years.
It was a big call taken by the ICC to give Test status to Ireland despite a mixed bag performance by them in the last year or so. They have produced some magical performances at times but hasn’t been able to beat teams in the limited overs format on a consistent basis. They have some really good blokes in both batting and bowling department but they have to be consistent in the coming future to start beating top notch teams.
Bracewell took over the coaching role from former West Indies player Phil Simmons after the 2015 World Cup. Ireland will travel to United Arab Emirates (UAE) in November before locking horns with Scotland in the ICC Inter Continental Cup.
“We will be conducting a global search in an effort to make certain we get the right candidate for the head coach role,” Cricket Ireland Performance Director Richard Holdsworth was quoted as saying.
“We hope to have the successful applicant in place for the tour to the UAE in late November, so they can take over the reins from John at the conclusion of the ICC InterContinental Cup game against Scotland. We’re looking for a coach with a broad spectrum of skills, who is an accomplished strategist with clear and ambitious plans as to how they will develop and build further success for Irish cricket,” he further added.
Ireland will compete in a 50 overs World Cup Qualifiers for the first half of 2018 which will be followed by a world wide Twenty20 tournament in late 2019 or in early 2020.
