Sometimes it’s hard for a player to remember facts, figures and solely the achievements, as discarded India fast bowling all-rounder Irfan Pathan is one among such professional cricketers.
Irfan has had been one of the promising bowlers for India while bursting onto the international scene in 2003, before his down-slide in the top-flight cricket.
In the latest episode of ESPNcricinfo’s ‘Think you know yourself’ which is hosted by Raunak Kapoor, Irfan, who remember the numbers regarding his career got almost eight answers right.
“Any answer I will give it’s [would be] positive,” Pathan said during the quiz Crinfo’s quiz video capsule.
However, the left-arm bowler got six out of six answers, before failing to respond a question related to his most number of outings for the widely-acclaimed Indian Premier League franchise.
The 23-year-old Baroda-born bowler stated it was Kings XI Punjab, but the host was quick in correcting him by revealing it was ‘Delhi Daredevils’.
Before taking on the quiz, Irfan was asked does he ever go through his career statistics like other players.
“No, I am not that type of guy…. Whatever I got [is] overview, but apart from that not much details,” Irfan responded.
After the seventh question, Irfan went on to lose another point by saying he struck his maiden One-day international fifty in Zimbabwe.
However, the right answer was Jamshedpur when he struck 64 off 87 balls against the-then Inzamam-Ul-Haq-led Pakistan, in the third ODI on April 09, in 2005.
Following the sudden downfall, Irfan has always aimed to make the international return after raising the bar of Indian bowling with his quality performances.

One of the questions was also related to Irfan’s hat-trick which came against Pakistan, in the third Test way back in 2006.
Irfan was asked, who caught Salman Butt on duck, on the fourth delivery of Pakistan’s first innings, before the former sent back the-then hosts’ skipper Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf – to claim his first Test hat-trick.
When the bowler was asked to come up with the exact figures, he claimed in total across formats.
Irfan, who was excited after hitting a six, had a brief pause, before stating the number is ‘300’ and the host said it was ‘301’ but eventually decided to give pacers effort a point after getting two right out of last four questions.
Irfan deceived the top-quality batters while being at its best. He has bagged 173 wickets in 118 50-over matches followed by 100 in 54 innings of five-day format and 28 wickets in T20I.
Irfan, who made his appearance in the top-flight cricket in 2003 against Australia at Adelaide, played 120 ODIs, 29 Tests and 24 Twenty20 international fixtures for India.
