Chasing a mammoth total of 203 to win, the CSK openers Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu got them off to a flying start. They smashed the KKR bowlers all around the Chepauk and collected 75 runs in the powerplay.
Watson was dismissed in the sixth over but by then he had got the franchise off to a rollicking start.
It was some good tight bowling in the middle overs which didn’t allow the CSK batsmen to go for the big shots.
Eventually, it was a blitz from Sam Billings which got CSK back into the game.
With 17 required of the final over, Vinay Kumar was smashed for a couple of sixes by Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja. CSK chased down the total in 19.5 overs.
It was some audacious hitting by Andre Russell which propelled KKR to a commendable total of 202 for six.
Sunil Narine smashed the first three deliveries of his innings for two huge sixes of Deepak Chahar. However, he fell in the very next over attempting another big shot.
Robin Uthappa struck some magnificent shots in between. But there was a flurry of wickets which reduced KKR to 89 for five in first 10 overs.
It was sublime hitting by Andre Russell which never really allowed the CSK bowlers to stem the run flow. By the time he finished, Russell had smashed 11 sixes and just a solitary four. The big-hitting sensation strick 88 of just 36 deliveries.
Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan has also thanked CSK fans for their support.
