From past few years, Irfan Pathan is having a tough time. Since his comeback from injury a few years back, first, he lost his pace and later lost place in the Indian team. IPL could have been one of the stages to perform and make a comeback, but he did not get enough chances under MS Dhoni from 2015 to 2016, before being going unsold in IPL 2017.

He was purchased by Gujarat Lions as a replacement of Dwayne Bravo but wasn’t given enough chances. After IPL, the only way for him to make a comeback in the team was performing in the domestic cricket, but here, Irfan had to face the politics in the state association.

He was dropped from the captaincy and axed from the team just after two games, which came as a big surprise. He was appointed as the captain for the season, but now, he finds not being part of the team.

Irfan has himself cleared that the reason behind his axing and stated that it is not at all related to the game –

With this, he has himself indicated that there is something fishy going in the state association and he was the one who had pay for it.

Amidst this, Kiran More, the former Chairman of selection committee of India team, has also commented on the matter and has termed Irfan’s dropping as an unfortunate one,

“This is very sad. Very unfortunate, I don’t want to say anything. I am no longer involved with Baroda cricket but this is very sad,” he said.

As per the reports which emerged ahead of the start of the season, Irfan was approached by the Kerala Cricket Association to join the team as a professional. Not just him, they also contacted Jiwanjt Singh of Punjab, Robin Uthappa and finally inked upon Arun Karthik, the former Tamil Nadu player.

Surely, the board has been unfair to Irfan Pathan and now the only way it could prove itself right if Deepak Hooda, the new captain, delivers in the remaining games.
