Is This The End of Road For Yuvraj Singh?

Yuvraj Singh has not played an international game since the tour of Caribbeans last summer.

Hours before departing to Australia with Team India for the ongoing series, head coach Ravi Shastri had pointed out that the team is more than unlikely to experiment anymore with the ODI squad ahead of the World Cup. He had said that chopping and changing was done for the time being.

“In ODIs… Chopping, changing over now. We’ll play a 15-member squad in Australia that will be close to the one that goes to the World Cup,”  Shastri had told the media.

And it looks like Yuvraj Singh’s hopes of playing one more World Cup is as good as over now. Earlier this month, India announced their ODI and T2oI squad for the series in Australia and New Zealand and on the very expected lines, Yuvraj failed to make it to any of the squads.

In fact, Yuvraj Singh making a comeback to the Indian team is a far-fetched possibility as of now. Ever since recovering from cancer, the southpaw has been given ample chances to cement his place in the team. But barring few knocks like the 150 against England on his ODI comeback last year, one of India’s greatest ever match-winners has failed to grab the opportunity.

What has further made things tough for him is Ambati Rayudu’s form. The right-hander recently made an impressive return to the ODI team and is looking set to end India’s woes at number 4. The team-management has also made it clear that it is willing to give Rayudu a long rope.

Yuvraj has also not managed to deliver in the IPL and the domestic cricket. In fact, recently he was looking primed to go unsold in the IPL auction. But fortunately, Mumbai Indiana gave him a lifeline by buying him at his base price at the last moment. A good performance in the coming months might change Yuvraj’s fortunes but for the time being his chances of returning to India are very bleak.
