Former Team India’s chief selector MSK Prasad has opined that with his impressive stint for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, Ishan Kishan has become the hot contender for the wicketkeeper-batsman slot in T20Is and ODIs.

The 22-year-old had dazzled everyone with his ability to easily hit sixes to take the innings to second gear and demolish any bowling attack. In the grand-finale of the IPL 2020 against Delhi Capitals, he didn’t get bothered with the pressure even though Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard consecutively lost their wickets.

He kept hitting boundaries to put pressure on DC bowlers. Finally, MI took away the game home as he scored unbeaten 33 runs off 19 balls. Well, this knock is one of the glimpses of his power-hitting. He had played such more knocks during the cash-rich league.

Seeing the stunning and consistent performance of Ishan Kishan, MSK Prasad was full of praise of the wicketkeeper-batsman, labelling him pocket dynamite as Ishan had gathered runs batting at number four position. At the same time, also as an opener when Rohit Sharma was injured, Prasad stated that his adaptability and temperament had now kept him in the top position for the wicketkeeper-batsman slot in Team India.

“It’s really fantastic to see this pocket dynamite in action. He had a fantastic IPL. Batting at No. 4 and later opening the innings, shows his adaptability and temperament. His ability to switch gears as per the team’s requirements will definitely place him as a hot contender for the wicketkeeper-batsman slot for Team India in both T20s & ODIs in times to come,” MSK Prasad was quoted as saying by Times of India.

MSK Prasad believes that if the youngster remains consistent, he will be “a welcome addition to the national squad”.

“If he can keep wickets well and bat the same way he did in the IPL, he will be a welcome addition to the national squad,” he added.

Ishan Kishan ended the IPL 2020 season as the highest run-getter for Mumbai Indians, scoring 516 runs in 14 matches at the strike rate of 145.76.
