Ishant Sharma Gets Hilarious Reply From Virat Kohli After Wishing Him for 50th International Ton

After a rare failure in the first innings, Team India skipper Virat Kohli roared back to form with a sublime century in the just-concluded first Test against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens.

India’s openers had put them in the driver’s seat after stitching together a quickfire 166-run stand on the penultimate day of the Test, thus helping India to wipe Sri Lanka’s 122-run with utmost ease. However, the game turned on its head on the final day due to Suranga Lakmal’s exceptional bowling performance.

Lakmal sent back both the overnight batsmen – KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara cheaply to set the tone for the visitors. India’s middle-order then once again failed to fire in the match, as Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin Wriddhiman Saha got dismissed for single-digit scores.

However, Kohli held firm one end and scored a fantastic century to guide India to a competitive 352 for eight before declaring.

His 18th Test century and the first at the iconic Eden Gardens made him the second Indian batsman after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to register 50 international hundreds. Kohli is now eighth on the list of most number of international centuries. He is the sixth on the list of Indians with the most number of Test centuries. Only Mohammed Azharuddin (22), Virender Sehwag (23), Sunil Gavaskar (34), Rahul Dravid (36) and Sachin Tendulkar (51) are ahead of him.

Kohli also equalled Hashim Amla’s record of hitting the fastest 50 international centuries, reaching the landmark in his 348th innings. Tendulkar had taken 376 innings to achieve the feat.

With Kohli continuing his unprecedented record-breaking feats, his Indian teammate Ishant Sharma took to Twitter to congratulate him for the incredible achievement.

@imVkohli Congrats Cheeku ??for ur incredible achievement of becoming the 8th Batsman EVER to score 50 or more int’l Centuries & being fastest to score it (348 innings). Great Going, Chakde Phatte?,” Ishant wrote on Twitter.

Kohli was quick to reply to Ishant’s message as he hilariously wrote:

“Thanks Lambe ?”

Meanwhile, the game ended in a thrilling draw. Sri Lanka was reeling at 75 for seven before bad light brought a premature end to the match.
