Ishant Sharma, the Indian pacer representing Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 got injured during training and is set to be sidelined for a considerable amount of time ahead of their opening IPL 2020 encounter. Ishant Sharma was signed up by Delhi Capitals in 2018 for the salary of INR 1.1 crore and was supposed to be seen forming an impressive fast-bowling pair with Kagiso Rabada during the IPL 2020 before the injury occurred.
The tall right-arm pacer has been a pivotal member of India’s Test side for a number of years and has played a vital role during India’s Test series wins in Australia and West Indies. He had taken 72 wickets in 89 IPL matches. The resurfacing of Ishant Sharma’s ankle injury means the 31-year-old speedster could miss the first part of the IPL in case he is required to undergo rehabilitation at the much-maligned NCA. He joined the Indian team in New Zealand 72 hours before the first Test and bowled nearly 23 overs for a five-wicket haul.
Ishant Sharma Can Be Sidelined For A Lengthy Time After Injuring His Back
Cricbuzz understands that the fast bowler injured his back on the eve of their first game in Dubai during a practice session, though sources in the BCCI claim the same ligament injury on his right ankle has flared up once again.. Ishant Sharma has grown through the ranks to become a senior fast bowler for India. He has not been a regular in limited-overs but has spearheaded the pace attack for India in the Tests.
His last Test appearance for India came in their tour to New Zealand where the visitors faced a drubbing but he picked up a five-wicket haul in testing conditions. He was also a part of the national team which clinched the first-ever Test series victory Down Under.
Ishant Sharma Was Fit After Rehabilitation At NCA In January
Ishant Sharma has a history of injuries in the recent past. In January 2020, he was sidelined first due to an ankle injury and a month later returned to play a Test against New Zealand before injuring the same ankle, which had put a question mark over the future of the 32-year old.
That match remains Ishant Sharma’s last competitive outing, after going through an extensive rehabilitation procedure at the NCA.
It was a roller coaster ride for me after the injury on my ankle on the 20th January but with the help of Ashish Kaushik I managed to pull it off! Scans were a little scary, but today I am happy that I am fit ! 🏏 Thanks Ashish Kaushik! #recoverymode #recovery #postinjury pic.twitter.com/xwNpecc0Iz

Ishant Sharma will be kept under the supervision of the medical staff and his recovery progress will be tracked. He was supposed to be a key man for the Delhi franchise and spearhead their bowling attack. A lot will now depend upon South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada who has to cope with pressure and expectations.
Delhi Capitals’ other potential like-for-like replacements for Ishant Sharma from the existing squad include Harshal Patel, Mohit Sharma, and Avesh Khan.
Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, reached the IPL playoffs in the previous edition. They will hope for a better result under the coaching of Ricky Ponting and a young side led by Shreyas Iyer.
