ToggleIsuru Udana, Sri Lankan left-arm pacer has announced his retirement from international cricket, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed on Saturday (July 31). Isuru Udana’s last appearance for the national side came in the second T20I against India earlier this week.
Isura Udana first made his debut for Sri Lanka in the 2009 World T20 in England and played five games in the competition including the final. He made his ODI bow against India in 2012 where he played two games but had to wait for almost seven years to break into the XI again.

The pacer managed to feature regularly only towards the latter part of his career after developing a reputation for being a white-ball specialist. Apart from being a wily customer with the ball using his variations to good effect, the 33-year-old also was known for being a hard-hitter lower down the order that helped him fetch gigs in T20 leagues around the world.
“I believe the time has come for me to make way for the next generation of players,” Udana said. “It is with immense pride and passion, and unfathomable commitment that I have represented and served my country.”
Overall, in his career, Isuru Udana represented Sri Lanka in 21 ODIs and 35 T20Is. Isuru Udana had a very modest international career with sporadic appearances over 12 years in which he played only 21 ODIS and 35 T20 Internationals with just 45 wickets to show for his efforts. He didn’t pick a solitary wicket playing 1 ODI and 2 T20Is.
His bowling – which typically features a lot of slower balls – was especially valued in T20s, though he was also an excellent fielder, and was capable of clean striking from the lower order. He hit one half-century in each of the white-ball formats for Sri Lanka, including a stunning 84 not out off 48 balls in a T20I against South Africa in 2019.

The 33-year-old, who was part of the limited-overs series against India that ended on Thursday, will, however, continue to play domestic and franchise cricket. He had represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL couple of seasons back.

32-year-old Isuru Udana has played 10 games in IPL 2020 and he has conceded 282 runs besides picking 8 scalps averaging 35.25. He was snapped up by RCB at his base price of INR 50 lakh in the IPL 2020 auction.
