It is something I will regret for the rest of my life: Cameron Bancroft
Australia’s Test opener Cameron Bancroft recently addressed a press conference after reaching Sydney post the ball tampering scandal in Cape Town.
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia has already sanctioned the disgraced Australian trio with bans.
Television footage showed Bancroft take what he said was a yellow tape out of his trouser pocket before rubbing the ball to change its condition.
However, later Steve Smith said the team’s “leadership group” had a plan, carried out by Cameron Bancroft, to tamper with the ball to “get an advantage.”
Meanwhile, CA slapped a 9-month ban on Bancroft while Smith and David Warner got 12 months ban.
The 25-year-old, heartbroken by the events, expressed his deep regret for his actions. He also apologised to the Australian public and fans and asked for forgiveness.
“I want to say that I am very sorry,” Bancroft said. “I love the game of cricket and playing for my nation and my state there is no greater pride for me. So, I am extremely disappointed and regret my actions. I am sorry to the people who have looked up to me around the world, especially the kids. I know I’m a role model and haven’t acted like one in this instance,” he added.
Bancroft also added that he would let his actions speak more than word in this circumstances. He also longed for changing the events and do the right thing on the lunch break.
“It is something I will regret for the rest of my life. It is something I will look to improve on and earn the respect back for the community. All I can do in the short term is ask for forgiveness, I hope you can allow it in your hearts to allow me to progress on that journey. For now, I will do the best to contribute to the community,” he concluded.
